Indian Monthly Grocery List For 2 Persons

indian monthly grocery shopping list

Few weeks back I got a request from a newly married girl to help her by giving Indian monthly grocery list with quanity for a small family of 2 to 4 persons (maligai saman list in Tamil, Kirana list in Hindi). So I have given the basic list in both PDF and Excel format as free download. This shopping list would be helpful for purchase in any Indian grocery store.  You can also use this list to shop from online stores and Indian groceries online.

I got this monthly grocery list from my mom. She advised me to follow it for purchases. I saved the list on my phone, which helped me buy the right quantities at a wholesale shop. Over time, I adapted it to suit our needs. My mom had been using this list for years, even getting home delivery from a nearby store. The quantity I have given would come for 1-2 months for a pucca South Indian family.

North Indians, please reduce the quantity of rice and increase wheat flour. Bachelors, do reduce the quantity by half.  Do follow this list for the first month. Based on your need and usage, you can alter it. People in US, UK and other abroad countries, carry this list to a nearby Indian grocery store. I am sure it will help you to make a quick and comfortable purchase.

To assist newly married women, bachelors, and anyonere like me struggles with poor memory, I have provided a master grocery list in Excel format with checklist option. You can easily download it as a PDF or XLS sheet by clicking the link below. Excel sheet is free to download. You don’t have to request permission for downloadingJust make a copy of it and edit as required. You can use this checklist for your monthly shopping and grocery purchase. I have also shared the list in image format, Please download and use it.

I’ve shared an image with a checklist below. Click on the image for PDF download or the link below to download this check list in Google sheets. I hope this list is helpful to you. If you think I’ve missed anything, feel free to message me, and I’ll add it. I’d also love to hear your feedback in the comments to know if this list was useful. Thank you!

A reader’s tip for cleaning hacks from comment section:

Instead of buying all the chemicals to clean especially if you have children around, get some white vinegar and sodium bicarbonate and use some lime juice, trust me the whole housing cleaning would be taken care without nastiness of the cleaning products we buy from shops. Eventually you would save money as well.

  14. That's a unique way of identifying the needs and I just loved the way you represented it. Mainly in every home making a list of required GROCERY is a big task. You made it pretty easy for many out there. I shop online for GROCERY every month as it takes most of my time to shop manually I select the required and will order online using GROCERY Coupons. I select this coupon from different stores, recently I used a site called klaimy for coupons to order home needs. It worked well, you can also try :)

Appreciate for your time to thank everyone.

But just want to my opinion about the cleaning hacks. You don't need all that chemicals to clean especially if you have children around. But some white vinegar and sodium bicarbonate and use some lime juice, trust me the whole housing cleaning would be taken care without nastiness of the cleaning products we buy from shops. Eventually you would save money as well.
Take care. God bless you to be a blessing for many.

  19. Nice list. Thanks for taking the time out. Don't know if i missed, but include Shoe polish. If you can extend the list for a small family, please include stationery (pencils etc).

Reminds me of a local grocery shop which used to provide a printed grocery list in which we just need to fill the quantity and give it back to him for packing.

    1. Thank you. I din't include stationaries and shoe polish as its a mandatory monthly purchase in all the houses. We can edit this list based on our demands.
