MYSORE BONDA / ULUNDU BONDA

Mysore bonda - a popular Karnataka snack made with urad dal, rice flour and spices.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Urad dal
  • 1 tbsp Rice flour
  • 1 Green chilli (optional)
  • 1 tsp Pepper corns slightly crushed
  • Curry leaves few (chopped)
  • Coconut pieces 1 handful
  • Coriander leaves Few (chopped)
  • Salt & Water as needed

Instructions

  • Soak urad dal for an hour in required water.
  • Grind using very little water along with salt and green chilli (if using). Use ice water for grinding.
  • Now add the chopped coconut pieces, curry leaves, coriander leaves and slightly crushed peppercorns.
  • Mix well and make sure the batter is thick. If it is watery add little rice flour.
  • Now heat the kadai with oil and fry these bondas in batches in low to medium flame.
  • Fry till its golden brown. Remove and drain in a tissue paper.
  • Serve with coconut chutney.

Notes

Soak urad dal in refrigerator till you grind.
You can use ice water while grinding to make a fluffy batter.
Use less water while grinding. You may need around 1/4 cup or less.
Adding rice flour is optional but if the batter is loose, you can add it to make thick.
