Ingredients

  • 1 to 2 cups Water
  • 1 tsp Tamarind extract Gooseberry size
  • ¼ cup Raw mango finely chopped, Use baby mango for best taste.
  • 3 tbsp Grated jaggery
  • ½ tsp Pepper powder 10 to 15 pepper corns
  • 1 tbsp Crushed Neem flower I used dried one, fresh is the best
  • ¼ tsp Salt

Some people also add ripe banana pieces, coconut bits, few pieces of sugar cane and roasted gram dal / fried chana dal which is optional.

Instructions

  • Wash and chop the raw mango pieces finely. Soak tamarind in water and take the extract using 1 cup of water.
  • If the jaggery has impurities, you can dissolve the jaggery in little water, strain it and then add to the tamarind water.
  • In a bowl, take the raw mango pieces, tamarind extract, pepper powder or red chilli powder, grated jaggery, salt, neem flower and mix well.
  • Add little water to adjust the consistency based on your liking.

  • Some like it to have it thick and some likes to be thin. Please add water accordingly.
  • Offer to God on Ugadi festival day and enjoy !

Notes

For variations, use red chilli powder instead of pepper powder.
Use Baby mango for best and mild sour taste. 
Some people also add few coconut pieces.
Some also add small pieces of sugar cane, puttani /fried gram dal
Adjust the taste and consistency as per your taste. 
Addition of fresh neem flowers is the best. It helps to purify the blood. You can use dried ones if you don't get fresh neem leaves. But its a must to add.
